Departure for the Ayutthaya historical site. The city was founded in 1350 by King U-Thong and became the capital of his kingdom, generally known as the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya thus became the second Siamese capital after Sukhothai.
Located at the confluence of Chao Phraya and Pasak rivers, the old city was in a meander of the river, this allowed to obtain a strategic area more difficult to access the enemy. Moreover, the name Ayutthaya comes from Sanskrit means “that can not be conquered”. But in fact, this did not protect Ayutthaya from the Burmese invader: looted by the Burmese armies of King Bayinnaung in 1569, the city was destroyed by one of his successors, Hsinbyushin, and on April 7, 1767, the city capitulated after two years seat.
The ruins of the original city now constitute the “Ayutthaya Historical Park”, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.
You will visit the remains such as:
Wat Phra Mahathat and his Buddha’s head stuck in the roots of a tree.
Wat Phra Nan Choeng and his massive golden Buddha.
