• Mysore:
The route between Bangalore and Ooty can be a pleasant, adventure-filled ride, especially if you are travelling by your own conveyance. Then you have the leisure to stop at places like Mysore, and enhance your trip further. Mysore is a culturally rich town and there is a lot to see here. This place is within 200kms from Bangalore and can be easily reached. Somnathpur Temple and Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery are two of the wonders of Mysore.
• Nanjangud:
Nanjangud is a small town on the route from Bangalore to Ooty, about 23 kilometers away from Mysore. The river is also lovely and you can spend some time resting by the riverside before continuing on to Ooty. If you are travelling with children, they will absolutely love dipping their feet in the cool, gentle river water.
• Bandipur National Park:
When travelling from Bangalore to Ooty, you can stop for an hour or two to explore the Bandipur National Park. . This vast kingdom is especially a delight to the children. The complexity of this eco system along with the interesting guides makes for a lesson in biology that you will be happy to remember long after you have left the Bandipur National Park.
• Rose Garden:
The wonderfully kept garden is a beautiful way to spend some hours in Ooty. The best time to visit the garden is in the early morning or late evening.
• Ooty Lake:
A long line of Eucalyptus trees lines one side of the lake, and railway line cuts across the other end.

• Mukurthi National Park:
Mukurthi National Park is a nature lover’s paradise, and should be visited at least for some hours by every person visiting Ooty. The national park is located in the Pykara district and is easily accessible by road.
It is part of the Nilgiri Bio Reserve and is home to many endangered plant and animal species. Trekking in the reserve is a great way to explore it. Trekking in Ooty is a highly popular activity.
• Pykara:
Pykara Lake and Waterfalls are situated approximately 21 kilometers away from Ooty. The place is a wonderful natural setting that everyone travelling to Ooty must experience.
The lake is a scenic, clean waterbody with two waterfalls rushing down at one end. The forest surrounding the lake adds to its beauty as does the silence that surrounds it. The drive from Ooty to the lake is also very pleasant and is best taken early in the morning.
• Doddabetta:
Doddabetta is the highest peak in the Nilgiris, and one of the most spell-binding sites in Ooty. It is a magnificent trekking spot, 2,637 meters high, and only 9 kilometers away from Ooty.
The area around the summit is covered in dense forests and is a very peaceful and scenic setting. The trek is not difficult but if you prefer, you can take a car up to the top. If you decide to trek in Ooty up to this place, you will be able to observe and absorb the sights and sound of Doddabetta and the surrounding mountains better.
• Eco Rock:
It is a spot which offers awe-inspiring views of the surrounding area even as it looks down a steep precipice. Vast stretches of forests extending as far as Coimbatore can be seen from Echo’s Rock. A very pleasant sight to behold from this spot is the Nilgiri Toy Train as it chugs up the mountain to Ooty.

The winters in Ooty are colder than rest of the south India. The best time to visit this beautiful hill station is from October to June. In these months, the temperature remains somewhere around 25°C which offers a pleasant weather. It is the best time for traveling and sightseeing.
Ooty is a year-round destination, but the ideal time to visit is between the months of April to June and September to November.
Ooty doesn’t face snowfall. You can see thick frost on the grass early in the mornings but that’s the most you can witness in Ooty. The air above is too warm to form snow crystals in southern regions of India. Possibly, too close to the Equator to encounter snowfall.
